I followed the advice in a response to this problem to remove all startup items, that made no difference. I tried Startup Minimal – not loading anything. Still took several times, but when it did startup it got to the first screen – Picture and asking for enter then login. But just hung at this point – so I can’t get in at all. Just showed the picture screen. Further tries it does not even get to that point – just the revolving dots. Which makes the PC inoperable. Every generation of the Windows product would face to this problem.

Every product has its lifetime. This is normal behavior. Thus for those computer, customer require to change new model computer to support new Windows version.

The only way I can think of starting is to use a Windows 7 boot disk, and installing Windows 7. I am delaying this until another problem is solved. I have a 4 year old Sony Viao F22 laptop which suffered the same symptoms. At first it worked OK after upgrading to WIndows 10, but after an upgrade about a month ago it did the same as my Del.

Then its screen resolution went wrong – it reverted to the basic screen you get when you boot to safe mode with no drivers. Reason is that Sony, who have stopped making PCs, did not provide a driver for Windows I spoke to them and they confirmed this.

I could howver run with the “fat” screen, but then the PC started fialing to boot until repeated efforts, then just hung on the boot. This PC is now with the repairers to see if there is a physical fault, or as I suspect it just wont work with WIndows 10, in which case it will be set up with Windows 7.

I am one of many reporting similar problems. Microsoft has made a massive mistake in assuming old PCs would work, and even if they did work OK to start, its upgrades appear to have made them useless.

Windows Windows XP Windows Vista Windows 7 Windows 8 Windows Are you seriously suggesting that people should throw away their computers and many have several computers each time there is a new Windows issue.

What is particularly annoying is that both my PCs worked with Windows 10 until the recent upgrades. Also, with these 2 PCs, when installing, the setup process checked them for suitability and said they were OK.

It is only the upgrades that have made them fail. I think Microsoft has at the least moral responsibility, and probably legal responsibility for correcting this situation, and I intend to pursue the matter. I then tried Safe Startup – no difference. Is there a boot which I can use where I hold a key down to try a clean boot? I am not very happy with Windows 10 and its frequent problems.
